~In Your Sleep~

I kiss you softly in your sleep
And I wonder,
If you will remember or
Simply be stirred.

And I am shaken by the thought
Of your forgetfulness.
For I fear that time
Will betray us once more,
And let whatever that is left slip.

Like sand trickling from your
Handful of reminiscence.

And I hesitate
If we can still exist in the same plane.
Where you may not share my thoughts
But can read them.

I grow in meek sorrow as I watch
Your slow breathing,
Your eyes fluttering unconsciously.

I fall into silence as
I look at you and
That I already have my answers.
I rest my head on damp pillows,
Trying to ignore your presence.

Your heavenly breathing seem to go
With my slight motion.
But dreams lie elsewhere.
